In the Urasenke tradition, sifting matcha is done away from the guest’s eyes, yet it remains an essential part of the preparation. It is a quiet moment of attention - to the texture of the powder, the smoothness of the tea, and the depth of the final taste.

Our matcha is stone-milled to an exceptionally fine structure, but the natural oils present in the tea leaves can cause small clumps to appear. This is a completely natural process, yet it can affect how matcha whisks and how smooth the final bowl becomes.

The Kinu Sifter is handcrafted from Japanese 18-8 stainless steel, also known as 304 stainless steel. It features a hammered handle and a double-layer sieve: an outer layer with fine mesh and an inner layer with an even finer mesh. The sifting process takes a little longer, but the result is an exceptionally soft, silky powder - ideal for preparing smooth, creamy matcha without clumps.
