Chasen, or bamboo whisk, is a traditional tool in the Japanese tea ceremony. Our chasen stands out with its delicate, streamlined shape, adorned with a thread in the purple color of matchin’, giving it a unique character and aesthetic. Thanks to its precise craftsmanship, the chasen is perfect for preparing matcha, enhancing its flavor and aroma.

Each chasen is handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo, resulting in thin, delicate fibers that are carefully separated and shaped to allow effective whisking of matcha. The central prongs meet at a point, often intertwined, while the outer prongs remain separated and curved at the ends. This design enables the chasen to create a creamy foam, which is essential for the traditional way of drinking matcha.

Available in two color variants, each chasen is unique in shape and color, accented with a purple thread. In Japan, the color of the thread holds significance in the context of the tea ceremony. In matchin’, the lavender color symbolizes peace, purity, harmony, and elegance.

As a handmade item, each chasen may vary slightly from the picture.

Before use, soak the chasen in warm water.

After pouring water into the bowl, use circular motions to gather the matcha from the sides. Then, whisk the matcha vigorously in M-shaped motions for 60 seconds close to the bottom of the bowl, followed by 30 seconds just at the top of the matcha to achieve microfoam without bubbles. After use, rinse the chasen with water without using detergents, then gently dry it and place it on a chasentate stand.
